I Think I’m Going to Name my Future Child David

David had a rotting front row of teeth, he was dusty from all the African sand floating around, and he must have been hot in his puffy jacket, but he clung to me like he’d never had a hug before. My team and I spent the morning at Amazing Grace Preschool, teaching the kids Sunday school songs, our limited dance moves and just loving on the kids. I find it ironic that a school that I was teaching at, taught me grace. I picked David up and asked him what his name was and then told him mine pointing at my chest. He giggled, flashing his rotting teeth and pointed at his...

Senga Bay

Hello from Lake Malawi! Every morning Team AFX gets to roll out of our tents to enjoy God’s beautiful creation.  WE are living just a few minutes walk from Senga Bay on Lake Malawi.  We go swimming, sit on the beach, walk in thsurrounding valleys.  Today is our first day of ministry and we started with bang – carrying bricks from one end of the property to other and playing soccer (the best sport ever)!  We are out in the bush, so internet access will not be available very often, but we will try and get it at least once a week! We are thankful for all of your...

Worship

What is this thing we call worship? To me it was the few songs we would sing on Sunday mornings in church. Have a band, some cool equipment and sing some songs. I have been to a lot of churches where they think it is necessary to have big speakers, amazing lights and sound equipment and a huge building. Have my daughter.

“I want you to have her,” said the 21 year old mother. What? I must have heard her wrong. Have her daughter?     I met a beautiful young woman, Deti, and her gorgeous 2 year old daughter the other day. After I found out her name she instantly asked how old I was. At first I was confused but once I told her I was 20 she said, “I want you to have her.” “What?” I responded. “I want you to have her.” “Why?” I responded. “Because I can’t feed her; I have no money.”   My heart broke into a million...

Oranges and Community

I was eating an orange outside in Mozambique, while two little girls were playing around me and I felt like I should give them some. I handed one little girl a piece and she immediately walked over to her friend and motioned for me to give her a piece, because if she got a piece and her friend didn’t that just wouldn’t be fair. This little girl who has nothing to call her own, and who probably doesn’t get fed well, made sure that before she enjoyed her orange, her friend had some too. I’ve learned a lot of things while in Africa- I’ve seen and experienced so...
