Beating Heart

Fifty plus farm animals, countless piles of animal turds, 6 am goat wake up calls, no running water, mystery food crunches, sunburn caused by malaria pills. This is Africa, and I love it. Every day necessities can't compare to the presence of the Lord here in Kenya. Every day we are faced with the unknown. How will God move today? Who will He speak to? Where will be hiking to? The fact that we absolutely have to rely on the Holy Spirit makes me come alive. So far we have witnessed healing, been a part of two authentic African churches, preached, sang, led more than ten people to the...

A Little Peace of Kenya

Peace. The overwhelming theme of my time here in Kenya. The morning sunrise, the face of a hopeful woman, or the clarity God has given me through his presence. Some days peace comes in a morning spent just talking to God. Some days it comes in witnessing  the acceptance of Christ into someone's life. Some days in the reassurance that our ministry revolves around the heart of God. Even on the hard days peace comes in knowing we are not alone on this journey. Many days peace comes in Joseph Kaparo. A man after God's own heart. A leader and an adopted African father to our team....

Kenya Believe It?

Life and ministry in Kenya have been hard, we definitely jumped right into the extreme with our first country: no water, electricity, no normal food, and huge climate change.  The sun cooks you during the day, but at night it's so cold and humid it's hard to sleep some nights. There's poop everywhere and we sleep about 20 feet from a hundred goats.  We walk quite a few  miles every day in rough terrain full of hills and rocks and you have to constantly be watching the ground and in front of your face for the acaesha trees and their thorns on the ground;...

Elephants and Pinapple

I am not a songwriter. I’ve always wanted to be, but my songs were always cheesy and I was too embarrassed to share them. The other day we woke up and saw an ELEPHANT! I have been wanting to see an elephant in the wild for the past 20 years. Truth be told, it’s part of the reason I wanted to become a missionary. I felt so loved and blessed to have seen it, I was jumping for joy. I prayed once again for the gift of song writing. This time, the Lord showed up- big time. I took my guitar out to a field and just started playing, all of the sudden my fingers started moving and my...

The Wakeup Call

Although we have only been in Kenya for less than a week, it feels as if we have been here forever.  God has been doing such amazing things through me and my team and I couldn't be more thankful. Let me share with you just one small example.                 We arrived on Thursday to "the bush"  which turned out to be a small village of one family from the Maasai tribe. To say I experienced some culture...

Musul

Last Thursday we arrived in Musul, where we will be ministering for the next two weeks. We are far out in the bush, the closest town is 50 km away over bumpy dirt roads. We are tenting in a small village with 7 houses, there are no showers, we walk everywhere we go, and we have a nice squatty potty. Elephants, zebras, and antelope are common here. It is exactly what I was hoping for.  The leader of this village is named Joseph, he is an elder in AIC Musul, the local Church that we are associated with. Almost all of the people in the community are of the Masai tribe. We have found that...
