Peace. The overwhelming theme of my time here in Kenya. The morning sunrise, the face of a hopeful woman, or the clarity God has given me through his presence. Some days peace comes in a morning spent just talking to God. Some days it comes in witnessing the acceptance of Christ into someone's life. Some days in the reassurance that our ministry revolves around the heart of God. Even on the hard days peace comes in knowing we are not alone on this journey.
Many days peace comes in Joseph Kaparo. A man after God's own heart. A leader and an adopted African father to our team. Some days peace is settled on the face of a smiling child. And although I hate to admit it some mornings peace can be heard in the alarm clock of the rambunctious goats. Peace can be found in the calming silence spent with the Maasai women, and in the hikes along the rolling hills.
At night peace is found in hearing a testimony and being close to the warm fire with my team. It is found in the vast skies full of stars without building in sight. And sometimes peace is even found in finding a squatty potty with doors! At 8 o' clock each night peace is seeing the glow from the flashlight meaning dinner is near. And peace overwhelms us with a wakeup call of elephants trumpeting.
Peace finds me most days in scripture when God knows just what to say. And God never fails to cover me in peace when his spirit consumes me during worship. I can't escape the peace that comes from the freedom of my identity in Christ, but I never want to. True peace isn't found in the absence of danger, but in the presence of Jesus.
The people of this land have all asked us to pray for peace over their land, but the depths of peace are endless in Kenya. God is teaching me that peace isn't something that has to be sought after, because its only a smile, a sunrise, or even a goat away… Don't overlook it.
P.S. We are off to Uganda today! Home of malaria, so keep us in your prayers! Until next time…
