Yesu ni Bwana

It means “Jesus is Lord”, it might not be correct grammar but that’s what the words mean. Even when things don’t go as expected and we get disappointed, Yesu ni Bwana. Coming to Kenya, many of us were expecting and hoping to be out in the middle of a random tribe where we camped in tents and cooked over a fire and had to go miles away to find any kind of western culture. However, when we got off the bus at 2 in the morning and walked down this dirt road, we walked into a house that has couches, bunk beds, electricity, and running water. I was ticked. I wanted to be...

You’re Raising Me

Sometimes, God does so many incredible things in you and through you that all you can do is drop to your knees in humble adoration. Sometimes, God works in you so deep that it’s all you can do to accept his teaching and movements in your heart. The next two weeks in Kenya are going to be falling alot into the latter category for me.   In Uganda, I was nearly overwhelmed by the leaps and bounds God was growing me. And I was totally overwhelmed by some of the things God did with me. I was challenged, to be sure, in Uganda, but I was mostly being challenged by my outward...

Heaven Will Be Clean…

One of my greatest struggles in this life, and especially as a believer in Christ, is that I have a deep desire for things to be “clean.”  I want everything to come in a neat package, issues resolved, ready to just be enjoyed. This is most evident in me when I examine my own life…I have told many of my friends I just want any issues I have to be completely resolved, to be done. I don’t enjoy the process of fixing. I’d just like to skip ahead to the resolution. Here I would love to simply encounter someone hungry and make sure that they are always well...

How to Lose 10 Expectations in 27 Days

Here are 10 ways in which my expectations (whether conscious or not) have been not just altered, but shattered, in my 27 days on this trip.    1. God works in spite of me, and it’s only through the Spirit working in me that I am of any use at all.   2. African food is actually really yummy (well, most of the time) 3. I’m not sick of anyone in my group (yet) 🙂 4. God doesn’t call us to be comfortable.   5. Just because I came with the sole purpose of pouring into people doesn’t mean that I can’t be completely poured into.   6....

Digging in, in Kenya

So the trip to Kenya was crazy! The whole time we had light I was going crazy in scripture. God was showing so much to me it was like a mental overload. But it was so worth it. It was amazing to meet up with team 1 again!! It is hard to be separated sometimes. We are a huge family. But traveling together makes it all better 🙂 On the bus to Kenya we all picked a piece of paper that had a name on it. Before we could open it and see the name we had to ask God to give us a message to them. It is crazy how God replies to that. I got just...

Door to Door Doesn’t Suck?

So, we made it to Bungoma, KENYA!    The wonderful church that we are working with has given us an entire house so that we can all live together as a team. These people are the definition of givers. People have donated food and skills to get us through to day and we realize how incredibly blessed we are! GUYS…WE HAVE A TOILET AND A SHOWER. Not just any shower…a HOT STEAM SHOWER. I haven’t gotten the chance to use it yet, but I hear it’s the best thing ever, so praise God for that!    Anyway, there are a bunch of different ministry options we...
