break my heart for what breaks yours

Day 5 Mbarara, Uganda   Lord you are mighty, you capture my heart time and time again. The moment I first heard your name I fell deeply in love with you.   Reflect on these words as I have, for the Lord is mighty.    Where do I begin… The Lord has truly shown up here in Mbarara. His grace and mercy has never been more evident. I woke several times this weak in prayer, waring for his people. The Lord has chosen Africa to do great things, these people cry out and desperately seek to know him. Being here, you cant help but reflect on your own personal walk...

Break my Heart for what Breaks Yours

Break my heart for what breaks Yours How many times have I sung these lyrics? Probably over a hundred to be honest.  How many injustices have I looked in the face, and walked right past? Far over a hundred. Unbroken, I have driven by the homeless, I have shaken hands with the alcoholic, I have prayed with the widowed.  I know that some times I have not always had the eyes of Jesus… I have not always seen the world with His eyes and His heart, but overall, I like to think that my heart hurts for the things that are not of God… my heart hurts for people who are just...

Twelve Days

Have I only been away for 12 days, what seems like a long time also seems so short. I don’t yet know everything about my team; our fears, our passions, our view of social injustice of how we perceive God. It’s not like the blind leading the blind though, it’s more like full reliance on God who hands everything to us as we need it, not as we want it. I’m quite overwhelmed with satisfaction- satisfied with how quickly God is wrecking this team for His Kingdom, satisfaction with new friends, satisfaction with new heart breaks because it gives me more hope and...

The Blind Walk

Walking in Faith often means taking a step without the ability to see where your foot will land.   The sentence I just wrote would have seemed sound wisdom to me a few months ago… as my life stood rather motionless in routine.  Since then, I have stepped into a leadership role unlike anything I have done before, to a place I never thought I would go, with people I have never met, and-until the journey actually began-without someone to lead with.  And yet, I would not have it any other way.  I now know that God is faithful BECAUSE he responded when I stepped...

Poverty in Paradise

Wow, Africa. My team is staying just outside of Kampala, Uganda in a village called Kisigwala… or something close to that spelling. We are incredibly blessed to be staying in a Pastor’s home, with beds and meals provided, Praise Jesus! It was completely unexpected but something that is blessing us in abundant ways. We are under an amazing spirit of unity; it’s simply incredible.  I love each team member; we have continually seen why the Lord chose us to come together for these two months.  This community contains different spiritual gifts that work together in a...

I See the Cloud and I Jump in

Before going to Africa you always here about how beautiful the people are here, I always assumed this to be true, however you can’t really understand it until you are here. Some of them are just so filled with joy that you just cant help laughing and smiling with them. We are staying with a Pastor and his wife, Peace. They have a house about the size of a large trailer home in the US and there is about twenty people staying there. It is incredible; it doesn’t feel that crowded either.  We are just now starting to get into the groove of ministry, today I taught English to...
