Uncomfortable

I have entered into a life where taking a shower is a treat. Where my tent is absolutely infested by fleas. Where bread and butter is the new normal. Where my feet haven’t been clean in 3 weeks. Where African music blasts all night long by the neighbors next door. Where the power goes out more times than not in a week. I have entered into a life where I have been constantly showered by God’s grace. Where I yearn for God to infest my heart. Where the Bread of Life fills me daily. Where I am being the feet of Jesus, reaching the nations. Where we worship Our Father all night...

Swaziland Arrival!

I got a call from one of the “Africa Expeditions” leaders, Carmella, and the team has arrived in their second country–Swaziland.  As someone who lived in Africa for almost two full years, my month stay in Swaziland still ranks as my favorite.   Swaziland is a beautiful country filled with incredible people.  This small plot of land resides within the boards of South Africa, yet maintains a unique culture.  Officially known as “The Kingdom of Swaziland,” it is the last remaining African country with an absolute monarchy.  The numerous...

Break Every Chain

Hello friends and family! It's so good to finally be able to write a blog post to update you all about what God is doing here in Maputo, Mozambique! From day one, we have been incredibly blessed to work with a ministry called Africa on Fire Ministries! A day in our life in Maputo looks like this: 6 am Bible Study. Breakfast. (PB&J on the most amazing bread) 30 minute walk to the church to do manual labor! Walk back home. Lunch. (Generally rice and salad) Team time. Free time to ourselves which can include playing with neighborhood kids, personal Jesus time, bonding with other team...

Healed by the Water

Our church in Mozambique is a sand floor, a crumbling cinder block wall and no ceiling except for a small rusted tin covering in the corner. The bathroom is a small cinder block room with the sand on the ground serving as a toilet. Regardless of the lack of a complete building, this is God’s house. It is very intimate to be singing worship in a language you don’t even understand and be able to look up at the stars and feel him surrounding everyone there.             One ministry day midmorning, our team was preparing the...

Are You Beautiful?

Beauty has been distorted. The term "beautiful", who can really describe it? Well, after two weeks in Africa, I can. I took a step back from what society says, no, what society screams at a young women like me, on how to be "beautiful". I instead turned my back on that lie, and embraced real beauty. One that can never be confined by society. It's not me who isn't "beautiful", it's the ugly society telling me I'm not good enough. And I'm here to say, I really don't care anymore. Beauty is written all over the face of my...

My Sister has Risen

The houses here in Maputo are colorless; they hold much sickness and much darkness within the walls. They are made of stone and cement and are topped with tin roofs. We walk by these houses every day on our way to church. We see big eyes peeking around the thorn bush fences and cardboard doors. There is much despair in Mozambique.   But there is also hope. There are pockets of light in the crevices of this city.   Our ministry days include going from house to house and praying over the hurting people. Our team has seen healing. We have seen grace; Jesus is moving. Three days ago, we came...
