The Beauty of Simplicity

"Nikki, Nikki get up Nikki, come seee the elephants." My First morning in the Bush of Kenya, I woke up to one of the sweetest girls outside my tent waiting for me to get up and see the elephants. Freeda is one of the daughters of our host family living in the bush. I fell in love with her the first night we met. Although I only spent a few days with her since she had to go off to school for 3 months, I learned a lot from this girl. She had the most precious smile and had the sweetest personality that brought joy to everyone she met. Freeda is just one of the many children here in Kenya that I met over this past month. What I noticed from these children was just how happy they were all the time. They had fun playing and singing with one another and became so over excited with the small things in life. Back in the states kids are playing with their Wii and computer games while the children here are having a blast with a toy that they made from a tree trig and rubber band. It really makes me think of how blessed we are back in the states. Being without phones, internet, transportation and chocolate for a month has been a struggle but coming back to it for a few days I have to say I wasn't missing much. The simplicity of life in Kenya has really opened my eyes. Sitting by the campfire under the beautiful stars with loved ones every night and waking up and spending time with God while watching the sunrise and elephants has been an amazing experience. Even though I am excited for Tanzania and Milawi, Kenya will always have a special place in my heart.
