AFX team has made it to Mozambique. The team does not have access to internet this month as we are in a town that is very limited in those ways! We will be back to internet in 2.5 weeks when we go back to Johannesburg, South Africa for final debrief. The team is doing really well and enjoying ministry! We are building mud huts for the disabled, doing house visits, preaching in churches, and visiting local prison, hospitals, and special needs schools for outreach. Mozambique is beautiful, hot, and tropical. Most of the team is getting to tent this month, which they are loving! Thank you for your prayers as we finish our last few weeks of this amazing journey!

Something took me aback in Revelation a few weeks ago. Jesus was talking to the angel of the church in Laodicea when He said, “I know that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm -neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” (Revelation 3:15-16.) To think that Jesus would prefer us to be cold rather than lukewarm was an awakening for me. Since then, verses about the fight that we are in have stuck out to me.    We are warned in 2 Timothy 4:3 about people in the last days, that they will be “having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.” Going to a country, (Swaziland), where spiritual warfare is so obvious this takes on a whole new…

Last Thursday one of my team leaders said headquarters had called to say that I was supposed to call my dad. My first thought was “Oh no. Somehow my phone is trying to connect to service and I have huge fees.” Such was not the case. It turned out one of my grandpas, Kenneth Moy, had just passed away.    Immediately I felt that the peace that I had had the entire trip was stolen from me.  I went in my room, (in which four of us sleep on the ground shoulder to shoulder), and opened my Bible simply because I was in shock and didn’t know what else to do. The first verses that God pointed out to me were Isaiah 54: 16-17. Part of it talks about how He created the destroyer to wreck havoc. Yup, I said, there was definitely some havoc happening in me right now, I thoug…

Manzini, Swaziland Today marks day five out of the one month we will spend in this beautiful country before moving on to Mozambique. I already know it is going to be hard to leave. As I sit writing this, I glance to my left and right where my teammates’ belongings sit huddled together. Four of us sleep less than five inches from each other in a room no larger than your average bathroom. Ironically, we actually have no “bathroom” (in the sense of the word we’re all familiar with) where we are staying. On any given morning, you can expect your hygiene routine to look a little something like this: Wake up, try to escape your sleeping bag without waking/stepping on your teammates, unbarring the door to the outside, walking to the port-o-potty (affectionately known …

Isaiah 58:6-7, “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and provide the poor wanderer with shelter- when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?” I want to dedicate the majority of this post to letting you all know what Erika and Louis Lingenfelder, our hosts at the BEAM House, are up to. I spent the majority of this week assisting Erika in her office and assembling “Life Skills” manuals for the teaching program BEAM (an acronym for “Biblical Education and Ministry”) runs. The time spent working on those manuals was really the first time I was able to have a one-on-one discus…

As a solid introvert, these few moments after 6AM are energizing, peaceful, and in a way, making paths for safe mental processing. I am the only one awake. And although there is only my breathing splitting the quiet in all of Pretoria, I am rewarded. The African sun greets me in a way it does no one else; I am the first one it says good morning to; I am the first skin it touches. Not everyone can say that. Our car was ambushed the first time we went to Mamelodi. The children just wanted the love of the Americans– the attention and affection of the missionaries. They saw no point in waiting till the vehicle was in park. My car door was opened for me by a 7 year-old girl who quickly took notice of my hair, pulling the hair-tie out, running her fingers through the strands to undo the br…

Our Fall 2014 “Africa Expeditions” team has officially arrived at the airport in South Africa!  Their leaders called about 30 minutes ago and their travel from Atlanta was uneventful and smooth.  The team will spend the coming days getting introduced to their ministry, coming to know the culture, and finding a routine for the months ahead.   They will be getting internet within the week so that they can communicate home and share more about what their days and weeks will look like.  Until then, we wanted to let you know that all is well.  Hope that you’re as excited to follow along with their adventure as we are! Sincerely, The Passport Team

Family and Friends,   We have arrived in Mozambique and have just finished our first day of ministry. We originally planned on being here on Friday but due to some visa issues we had to spend an extra weekend in Malawi. It was a hard goodbye. We grew really close to the family we were staying with and several members of the ministry we were partnered with. We had some amazing experiences and they taught us so much. Each of us have really cool stories about our time in Malawi.   We met several members of this ministry last night during an orientation time. We will be working in a school and spending time with some locals outside the city in their homes as part of strengthening the local church. It should be really exciting here in the last country of our journey.   G…

I always heard of miraculous healing stories that take place on mission trips, but I never thought that I would actually get to experience one for myself. This morning my team and I traveled about an hour south to a remote village in the town of Thyolo, Malawi. The morning had already started off rocky, 4 out of our 14 member team had to stay behind because of sickness and/or rest issues, so from the beginning the enemy was not wanting us to minister today. But soon we were on the road and headed to share the Gospel.   Once we reached the village, we broke off into teams where I was placed with my teammate Frances and our interpreter Zachariah, who is also our host. We visited 4 or 5 homes where we encouraged them to keep their faith through everything. Everyone that we came in c…
